2015 ‘The Vision’ Shiraz—1919 First Planting—Single Vineyard
Charlie Fromm instigated a legacy from the moment his crowbar broke the soil and the first vine was planted on the TeAro Estate property in 1919. As a family we feel humbled to tend this historical vineyard and share our exceptional wine signifying his pioneering vision.
The location for the 1919 Shiraz was selected for its rich soil profile of deep sandy loam over structured clay. Originally the block was dry grown and to this day when rainfall sustains the crop, this traditional vineyard practice is maintained. Due to its southerly location the fruit benefits from a slow ripening process, overseen closely and harvested in the cool of the evening to preserve fruit and acid balance.
Specialised winemaking practices including plunging the ferment by hand every day and maintaining a cool temperature, has harnessed the true nuances of this historical vineyard. A slightly longer ferment with an additional 72 hours of skin contact also extracted a beautiful richness of colour. The wine matured gracefully for two years in the very best of new French Oak before being bottled and cellared for an additional two years prior to release. Decanting recommended.
Cellaring potential 10 years.
770 bottles / 64 cases produced.
